In our business, a key element is VISIBILTY! If a motorist cannot see us, they cannot avoid us, or follow our directions. I have found Glo Glovs to be an excellent tool in controlling traffic.
When I first got into this business, I tried to figure out ways to get the attention of oncoming
traffic when I was escorting an unusually wide load along a two lane road.
I am always looking for new tools to use and one day I came upon a product called
Glo Glovs. They are made of black nylon/spandex, stretchable with highly reflective vinyl shapes sewn to the palm, back and back fingers. There are three styles but I use the Traffic Control style for my work.
Believe it or not motorists see the yellow triangle and stop palm and know immediately what you are trying to communicate to them. I use these gloves effectively when I am behind a long load on a two lane road, in particular when it is winding and narrow.
I communicate with the lead escort, and if traffic is coming, I hold my palm (STOP) toward the vehicles behind me. When traffic is clear, I turn the back of my hand toward them to indicate it is clear for them to pass. It works!
These gloves would make a great gift for pilot car operators, bicycling enthusiasts and runners.
